Choosing a level transmitter starts with the vessel, the medium and the conditions above the product surface. For applications that need greater ultrasonic reach than smaller compact models, the Prosonic FMU42 offers a non-contact approach with a flange process connection.
MEASUREMENT RANGE FOR EVERYDAY PROCESS TASKS
The FMU42 uses ultrasonic time-of-flight measurement for fluids, pastes and coarse bulk materials. It also supports flow monitoring in open channels or at weirs. Maximum distances reach 10 m for liquids and 5 m for solids. A 0.4 m blocking distance must remain clear below the sensor face. Actual performance depends on the application and installation.

DIAGNOSTICS THAT SUPPORT COMMISSIONING
An echo envelope curve can be viewed on the local display to assist diagnosis. Up to 32 linearization points allow conversion into length, volume or flow values. The electronics, output and approvals should be checked against the complete order code.
INSTALLATION DETAILS THAT MATTER
For a tank installation, check the flange arrangement, nozzle dimensions and the clear path between the sensor and product surface. Internal structures, filling streams and agitators should be considered when selecting the mounting position. Keep the highest expected surface outside the blocking distance.
Foam, heavy dust, turbulence and vapour can affect ultrasonic echoes. Assess the usable measuring distance under real operating conditions rather than selecting solely from the nominal range. For bulk solids, consider the surface profile and filling pattern; for open-channel flow, confirm the measuring location and channel or weir geometry.
