Endress+Hauser Prosonic FMU44: Long-Range Ultrasonic Level Measurement for Tanks and Bulk Solids
Endress+Hauser Prosonic FMU44
Long-Range Ultrasonic Level Measurement for Tanks and Bulk Solids
Larger vessels require more than a longer measuring range. Reliable level monitoring also depends on a clear signal path, suitable mounting and a configuration matched to the process. The Prosonic FMU44 brings continuous non-contact measurement to applications where greater ultrasonic reach is required.
GREATER REACH WITHOUT A PROBE IN THE PRODUCT
The FMU44 uses ultrasonic time-of-flight technology for liquids, pastes and coarse bulk materials. Maximum measuring distances are 20 m for liquids and 10 m for solids. It can also be used for flow measurement in open channels or at weirs. Usable range must be assessed against the actual operating conditions.
TECHNICAL HIGHLIGHTS
• Maximum distance: liquids 20 m; solids 10 m
• Blocking distance: 0.5 m
• Process temperature: -40 to +80 °C
• Process pressure: 0.7 to 2.5 bar absolute
• Main wetted material: PVDF
• Process connection: flange
• Two-wire or four-wire compact transmitter versions
SUPPORT FOR COMMISSIONING AND DIAGNOSIS
The local display can show the echo envelope curve to assist diagnosis. A linearization function with up to 32 points converts the measurement into length, volume or flow values. The complete order code should be checked to confirm the required electronics, output and approvals.
PLAN THE INSTALLATION AROUND THE PROCESS
Before selecting a transmitter for a tall vessel, review the distance from the sensor face to the lowest expected product surface. Keep the highest product level outside the blocking distance and check the flange, nozzle dimensions and mounting position. Tank internals and filling streams should be considered when establishing a clear measuring path.
For bulk solids, the surface profile can change during filling and discharge. Dust and an uneven surface may influence the returning echo. In liquid service, foam, agitation and vapour should also be assessed. Nominal range alone does not establish whether a particular installation will deliver the required performance.
For open-channel or weir applications, provide the channel geometry, measuring location and expected flow range. These details help establish the correct arrangement before commissioning.
PREPARE YOUR FMU44 ENQUIRY
For replacement enquiries, send the existing nameplate and complete order code. For new installations, provide the medium, measuring range, vessel drawing, temperature, pressure, flange requirements, output, approvals and quantity.
