Radiometric Level and Density Measurement for Demanding Processes

When process conditions make an immersed sensor impractical, an external measuring arrangement can offer a useful alternative. The Gammapilot FMG50 is a compact radiometric transmitter for demanding industrial applications, combining non-invasive measurement with two-wire loop-powered operation.

ONE PLATFORM FOR SEVERAL MEASURING TASKS

FMG50 supports point level detection, continuous level, interface and density measurement in liquids, solids, suspensions and sludges. Its radiometric principle allows measurement without direct contact with the process medium. The complete measuring arrangement must be engineered for the vessel, product and required task.

KEY PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS

• Measuring principle: radiometric
• Supply: two-wire, loop powered
• Communication: 4–20 mA HART
• Ambient temperature: -40 to +80 °C, subject to the selected configuration and approvals
• Housing options: aluminum or 316L stainless steel
• Heartbeat Technology for diagnostics and verification
• Bluetooth operation with the SmartBlue app

EXTERNAL MEASUREMENT FOR CHALLENGING CONDITIONS

Because the detector is installed externally, it does not introduce wetted parts into the process. High process temperature or pressure can therefore be addressed without exposing the detector directly to the medium. The detector ambient conditions, mounting arrangement and complete system design still require application-specific assessment.

DIAGNOSTICS AND SYSTEM INTEGRATION

Two-wire loop power and HART communication support integration into an appropriate control-system architecture. Heartbeat functions and wireless operation can assist maintenance and verification planning. Available functions and safety approvals should always be checked against the ordered device and relevant documentation.

SELECT THE COMPLETE MEASURING ARRANGEMENT

FMG50 is a detector/transmitter, not a complete radiometric installation by itself. Source selection, the source container, mounting geometry, vessel wall construction and medium properties must be coordinated by qualified specialists. Radiation-source work requires the applicable site procedures and regulatory authorization.

For a replacement enquiry, provide the existing nameplate, full order code, measuring task and installation drawings. For a new project, include vessel dimensions, wall materials and thickness, product properties, range, ambient conditions, output, approvals and quantity. These details help avoid specifying a detector separately from the system it must operate within.
